GEA benefits meant no more ‘pushing through the pain’

When other companies are reducing benefits, GEA is stepping up

Jorge Ramos couldn’t afford physical therapy for his back, until he found CareATC, GEA’s onsite primary care provider. Now, Jorge is living a more pain-free life.

After a car accident left him in severe pain from a bulging disc in his back, Jorge Ramos needed a job with health benefits.

In a climate where many companies are reducing benefits for employees, Jorge needed more. He struggled to find a job that would help him afford the care he needed.

That’s until he joined GE Appliances. As a line worker in AP1, Jorge has access to all the benefits available at GEA, including the CareATC Wellness Center. He didn’t know how much this independent primary care office in AP4 could help him until his back flared up during a recent overtime shift.

“The pain ran down from my back, and my knee locked up,” says Jorge. “It felt like a Charlie horse, but throughout my entire leg. It gave out, and I just fell over.”

The line stopped but Jorge’s path to pain-free living started.

The line stopped when Jorge fell. The occ health nurse arrived and drove Jorge to CareATC where he was evaluated.

“The team at CareATC was so considerate and patient,” says Jorge.

At a follow-up appointment with CareATC, Jorge mentioned the outrageous cost of physical therapy. That was when he found out CareATC offers physical therapy services for GEA employees. They quickly connected him to a free, virtual physical therapist who he now sees twice a week.*

“It’s really wild that these benefits are free* to employees,” says Jorge. “I tell everyone! I send my friends. Go! It’s free! Take advantage of it. It’s such a great resource.”*

Thankfully, Jorge doesn’t have to push through the pain anymore. He’s getting the help he needs.

“At CareATC, they really want to help,” says Jorge. “It has such a different energy than other doctors’ offices. They really do care.”

Do you know someone who could benefit from services at CareATC? Referring a friend could earn you both $50! Encourage a co-worker to schedule their first appointment at CareATC, and you’ll both be entered to win a $50 gift card. See the Wellness Center in AP4-100B for more details or call (502)452-0777.

*CareATC Physical Therapy Fee Structure: Employees on the HRA plan will pay $0, HSA will pay $45 until they meet their out-of-pocket deductible, and non-health plan will pay $45. Jorge’s physical therapy is free because he is enrolled in the HRA health plan.
