January is National Blood Donor Awareness Month.
Did you know every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood or platelets?
Right now, there is a critical blood shortage. “The pandemic has greatly reduced the amount of blood collected since so many blood drives held at businesses and schools have canceled this year,” says Marcia Brey, Vice President, Distribution and Chair of the Board for the American Red Cross – Kentucky Region.
The American Red Cross has less than a five-day blood supply on hand. Let’s help close the gap during this serious season of need. “Blood is desperately needed. You can save a life! If you’re able, please consider signing up to donate at a Red Cross blood drive today,” says Marcia, who also urges participation in a public blood drive on January 20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The location, close to Appliance Park, is St. Bartholomew Church, 2042 Buechel Bank Rd., Louisville, Ky. 40218.
If that timing doesn’t work for you, schedule an appointment to donate. Use the free Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Want to reduce wait times? Set a donation appointment and complete a RapidPass online health history questionnaire.
When you donate, the American Red Cross will tell you exactly where your blood donation went. How rewarding!
