With so many longstanding events cancelled due to COVID-19, take celebrating independence into your own hands.
Community-wide July 4th celebrations will join the many events missed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. But that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate safely in your own backyard. Here is a beginner’s guide to hosting a small, socially- distant and patriotic get-together for your close friends and family.
Guests: Get your people excited and send an invitation in plenty of time to plan ahead. There are tons of free evites online in cute, patriotic themes.
Food: This year, opt for boxed entrees or prepackaged items/snack items versus shared dips and party trays to keep the spreading and sharing of germs at bay.Â
Seating: Since your shindig should take place outside with the goal of staying socially distant, consider asking your guests to bring their own chairs.Â
Beverages: Let guests know ahead of time if this is BYOB. If not, skip the keg and the punch bowl this year. Choose canned beverages and shop at warehouses like Costco or Sam’s Club to find good deals on anything from beer to juice boxes.
Entertainment: Make sure to have some fun music playing in the background as you catch up IN PERSON with people you may not have seen in a while.
Decorations: Hit up the local dollar store for American flags, red, white and blue décor and party favors.Â
Fireworks: End the evening with a sparkly finish. Stay safe and sober for this part of the evening.
