Take Your Financial Wellbeing to the Next Level

Miranda Wantland practices good financial health – an aspect of overall wellbeing that she believes to most definitely be a path to true freedom in life.

Life was happening fast, and Miranda and Louis wanted to be ready for it. Approaching 10 years ago, Miranda Wantland and her husband, Louis, were newly engaged and had just joined GEA as design engineers.

“Numbers were already important to us,” says Miranda, senior program engineer. “We had goals for how we wanted to live our lives, and we knew we would have to focus on financial responsibility to do it.”

To prepare for their upcoming wedding, the couple had signed up for marriage counseling. One of the sessions focused on finances and was taught by Dave Ramsey. That’s where they first heard about the Financial Peace program. For the soon-to-be Wantlands, it was life changing.

Apps over spreadsheets

Miranda and Louis took what they learned from the course and ran with it. Miranda started out slowly tracking finances on a spreadsheet, but then discovered the world of financial tracking apps. For her, using apps was a much easier and more efficient way to keep up with daily spending.

She recommends the EveryDollar app, which allows you to put together a complete budget for each month. Once the first month is set up, a template is automatically created for the next month. The time commitment is minimal, and the payoff is well worth it.

“The app is a living snapshot of our finances at any given moment,” said Miranda. “Before we purchase anything, we always check to see if there are enough funds available.”

Miranda believes financial stability impacts every aspect of her life

Now with two children in the mix, the Wantlands financial habits are turning into a legacy. “We are teaching our kids how to be financially responsible – to save, spend and give appropriately,” says Miranda.

“This stability helps us plan for the future – whether that’s charitable giving or vacation time,” says Miranda. “There’s a peace and wellbeing that comes from that, which absolutely makes me a better employee.”

GEA wants our entire GEA family to find the WELL within themselves, and our commitment is leading to a healthier, happier and more productive workforce.
