‘We Want People to Know They’re Not Alone’

Whatever the problem, it’s now easier than ever to get help through your EAP.

The first step to addressing a problem is to talk it through with someone. At Appliance Park, that someone is Ken Haysley, a therapist with GE Appliances’ Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a confidential counseling and referral service.

“If you are experiencing difficulties of any kind, chances are you will feel better if you talk to someone you trust,” says Ken, who has assisted employees coping with a wide range of issues, including stress, depression, substance abuse, anxiety, eating disorders, marital problems — and much more.

EAP is available to all employees and their family members, and up to five counseling sessions are offered free of charge. For those with more complex issues, Ken can provide further treatment or make a referral. Ongoing treatment with Ken is provided at a lower cost compared to community providers.

GE Appliances (GEA) recently made EAP even easier to access, and employees now can schedule appointments online through the Park Well Care Center (PWCC) patient portal at  parkwellcarecenter.com/patient-portal. In addition, Ken and fellow PWCC providers are encouraging employees to seek the care they need for mental health issues –  just as they would for any other health issue.

“If you just need to talk something through, Ken is here,” says Beth Tingle, a nurse and Director of Operations for PWCC. “We want people to know they’re not alone in their stress, their worries. Whatever they’re dealing with, they’re not alone.”

“Any of us could benefit from EAP services,” Beth adds. “Just like any of us could benefit from medical help if we had the flu or any other serious illness. We’re simply increasing access to this great benefit offered right here onsite.”

Although EAP is equipped to help employees withstand life’s roughest issues, it doesn’t have to be a crisis to warrant reaching out. The program can connect employees with resources ranging from financial advisors and attorneys to parenting and eldercare support.

If you’re struggling with a problem of any kind and are on the fence about seeking help, Ken says, “Make the appointment. Let’s bounce some things around and see what your options are.”
