Down 21 lbs and $100 richer … but quality of life tops the list of outcomes.
Is it worth it? That’s the question Andrea Bartley, HR business partner, has asked herself for the last six months.
“For me, losing weight has been all about making the choice. And then making it again and again,” says Andrea. “Learning to eat purposefully has been the most critical part of my progress.” She starts every meal with the same question: “Is it worth it?”
Andrea didn’t set out to lose weight. She first started eating better because she wanted to support her husband who is diabetic. “He was trying to drop weight to improve his health,” says Andrea. And he did. His doctor took him off daily insulin for his diabetes.
“It was never about losing weight, although that’s a great side effect,” says Andrea. “The biggest difference, by far, is the health impact. I used to have to take a pill every day just to be comfortable. With the weight off, my quality of life has improved significantly.”
So when the Park Well Care Center (PWCC) began the Down After Derby weight loss challenge, it gave Andrea added motivation to reach her goals.
“I definitely appreciated the weigh-ins,” says Andrea. “Having accountability makes a huge difference.”
Andrea ended up losing 21 lbs. in 10 weeks and, as the winner, earned a $100 gift card to her clothing brand of choice. Andrea has no intention of slowing down any time soon – she has goals to meet!
From the looks of it, her strategy sure is paying off.
