William Dunavant’s Story

William Dunavant: You Never Know

Your next appointment may save your life

“I was a ticking time bomb,” says William Dunavant, retired line loader at Roper Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of GE Appliances, a Haier company. “If I’d had a heart attack, it would have killed me.”

Turns out, a simple six-month check-up at CareATC saved William’s life.

“I just needed my meds refilled,” says William. “But the doctor listened to my heart and immediately ordered an EKG. They did it right away on-site and ordered me to follow up with my heart doctor.”

His heart doctor did a stress test and found abnormalities. Two days later, he was scheduled for a heart cath—a procedure where a thin, flexible tube explores blockages in the heart.

“What was supposed to be a simple procedure became two heart stints,” says William’s wife and veteran Roper employee, Betty.

William woke from anesthesia to find he’d had a 99.9% blockage in one of his arteries.

“We had no idea that one half of my heart was taking care of the other,” says William.

Thankfully, they caught it just in time.

“Unbelievably, he had not yet had a heart attack,” says Betty. “If he had, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

Some may view CareATC as a backup plan for healthcare. But for years, William has used CareATC as his primary care.

“The staff at CareATC has always been great,” says William. “They always treat us like family.”

Betty agrees.

“It wasn’t just a great experience,” says Betty. “CareATC was a life-saving experience!”

As William and Betty enjoy their retirement, they’re grateful things didn’t turn out differently.

“If the doctor at CareATC hadn’t caught it, we never would have known,” says Betty. “It would have cost me my husband. I’m so glad to have these years with him.”
