A single act of kindness creates a ripple effect

World Kindness Day is November 13

World Kindness Day gives us an opportunity to reflect on the positive power we have to make a difference in the lives of others.

Kindness bridges the divides of race, religion, politics, gender, and location. Studies have found that acts of kindness are linked to increased feelings of wellbeing, self-esteem, empathy, and compassion, along with improved mood.

There are many ways to celebrate World Kindness Day, both big and small.

Ask yourself: “How am I going to practice kindness today?” Pay attention when you see kindness occurring whether that be to yourself or to others. This positive focus is like planting positive seeds in your mind garden. Where focus goes, energy flows.

Consider joining Mayo Clinic’s Kickstart Kindness program to start your kindness journey. The program offers many ideas on how to extend kindness to yourself, your community, environment, home, family, co-workers, and others.

The Dalai Lama said it best: “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.”
