Clean Out Your Closet

It’s not too late to donate gently used clothes to Roper’s Giving Closet.

When the donations weren’t as plentiful as Kelly Hughes had hoped, she made an easy decision.

Extend the Giving Closet’s donation period indefinitely.

At first, Kelly opened the Occ Clinic for Giving Closet donations for one week in June. But when that post-donation-week Monday hit, Kelly, an occ health nurse, knew she needed to shift her plans and give employees more time to clean out their closets.

“Donating to the Giving Closet helps me also,” says Heather Hess, another Occ Health nurse. “It allows me to let go of items I need to declutter from my own space because I know it is going to serve a good cause.”

What is The Giving Closet?

A new-ish donation program to help Roper employees. Whether it’s fire, a weather event or homelessness, any employee in crisis can find the clothes they need to work. Kelly will wash items donated by Roper employees, sort them, then store the clothes and shoes in a closet where other teammates can “shop” for what they need.

“In my role, I see the unfortunate circumstances that people are sometimes in, and in my opinion, which can be any of us at any time,” says Heather. “It is nice to have an option for our employees to have nice clean clothing to choose from. It is a self confidence boost.”

How you can help

Dig around in your closet and donate clothes and shoes that follow Roper’s dress code.

“Please only give clothes you’d be proud to wear,” says Kelly, who emphasizes everyone deserves dignity when showing up to work. Kelly is collecting donations at Roper’s Occ Health Clinic.
