With men making up about 70% of our workforce, GE Appliances is taking the opportunity to highlight men’s health during Men’s Health Week, June 12-18.
Here are five ways to help celebrate and improve men’s health:
- Take a week off from tobacco and alcohol. Men are more likely to use tobacco products and alcohol than women. Both habits increase risk of cancer including cancers of the mouth, throat, larynx, esophagus, liver, colon, and rectum. Encourage the men in your life to join you for a week without tobacco and alcohol in recognition of Men’s Health Week. Need help quitting tobacco or alcohol? Learn how Quit Genius can support!
- Get your recommended health screenings. Early cancer detection through physicals, screening and self-checks increases the rate of recovery – and even saves lives. Here is a Cancer Detection Guide for Men. Is it time for a check-up? Schedule an appointment today at CareATC – Roper / Appliance Park!
- Try a mean/lean recipe. Research suggests modest diet and lifestyle changes can prevent 30-40% of cancer diagnoses. This Men’s Health Week, try a new recipe or add more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Need help with recipes? - Remove the stigma around mental health. Mental health is as important as physical health and should not be ignored. Reducing stress, dealing with trauma, and working through life events are all important. No one must do it alone — including men. Break the taboo by having open conversations about mental health with the men in your life. Get to know your mental health resources through GEA.
- Look for ways to improve your energy. Studies show lifting weights and adding cardio workouts to your daily routine helps you live longer and reduces your risk for certain types of cancers. Let’s do something about that dad bod. Sign up for The Y @ Work for only $2.50 per week!
