There’s a meme, it seems, for every occasion and situation. Those humorous images passed around the Internet have become an amusing part of our daily life. But did you know that memes can help people cope with stress?

new study conducted by researchers at Penn State University and the University of California Santa Barbara and published in the journal Psychology of Popular Media suggests that scrolling through meme-filled sites can be an effective strategy for dealing with stress. So, don’t be too quick to those dismiss those memes your friends or co-workers send, especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Give yourself a break, breathe, and perhaps ease the stress with a little comedic relief.
