James Brooks found extra satisfaction with an assignment that let his degree shine.
Create opportunities to fall in love with your job and the GEA culture all over again with these seven tips – exclusive to GE Appliances employees. James Brooks, who admittedly never lost his passion as an HR business partner, still found extra zeal by tackling No. 4.
- Connect with your co-workers: Join an Affinity Network to build relationships within the company.
- De-stress: At most GEA sites, there’s an onsite gym you can join. Once a member you can experience a lunchtime yoga or fitness class.
- Promote feelings of results: Use Recognize YOU to offer praise and recognition. It’s also important to celebrate the successes of your peers like Service Anniversaries.
- Get engaged: Not to a person. To your job! Ask for a bubble assignment or dive deep into a project that’s meaningful to you and outside your typical job scope.
“I didn’t have any experience with contract negotiations, but it shook things up and that’s what I enjoy,” says James Brooks, who was asked to join the contract negotiations team as a note taker. His original role quickly expanded to help with the wage structure. “My boss knew about my degree in finance and leveraged that knowledge.”
James was excited to show his team what he could do. “My abilities go beyond what I do every day,” says James. “I’m always looking for new ways to learn and use my degree.” Most of all, James loved the experience of being part of a business critical team and the value he provided.
- Ask for an investment: Go back to school and get the degree you’ve dreamed of. GEA offers tuition reimbursement to employees.
- Lend a hand: There’s this thing here called the Blue Wave and it’s pretty amazing. Employees come together to volunteer and improve their communities. You can jump in the wave, too!
- Move around: There are plenty of opportunities within GEA and just because your current role may not work, our company is large enough for you to find the perfect fit. Once logged into Workday select careers, then GEA find jobs.
