World Cancer Day is February 4

Global day of awareness, education and action aims to reduce cancer rates

Just about everyone has been affected by cancer, either through their own diagnosis or a loved one’s. The organizers of the annual World Cancer Day hope the global spotlight on February 4 can help to change that by reducing cancer rates and bring quality care to those battling the disease.

The group behind World Cancer Day, the Union for International Cancer Control, says about one third of cancer cases could be prevented and another third could be cured if detected early and treated properly.

This Saturday, the worldwide event will focus on care disparities with its “Close the Gap” campaign. Age, race, income level and where you live in the world all have an impact on cancer survival rates. Those factors affect the quality and access to care, and treatments can vary drastically based on demographics and location.

GE Appliances honors World Cancer Day. We aim to not only raise awareness but also improve education to reduce preventable cancer deaths. To learn more about World Cancer Day and its “Close the Gap” initiative, visit WorldCancerDay.org
